Ten years ago, on October 23rd, a scrawny, black and tan dog boarded a plane in San José, Costa Rica and landed in Dallas, Texas.
That’s the simple version of a much longer story involving my (now senior) dog, Dobby. We met while I was working on an alternative energy project in Bocas del Toro, Panama. From the moment I fed this frightened, skinny pup a cracker, a bond began forming between us. He began following me everywhere–on hikes, swimming in the ocean–and became a trusting, loving young dog.
Still, I didn’t think I’d be taking him home. Six months later, everything changed…
The rest of Dobby’s story is chronicled in my children’s book, He Found Me. Starting on Monday, the eBook will go on sale for $1.99 and I will be taking orders for signed copies of the paperback (on sale for $11, instead of $13). ALL PROCEEDS will go directly to Secondhand Hounds, a Minnesota-based animal rescue organization.

Help me celebrate Dobby’s anniversary by following along on Instagram or Facebook! Every day, I’ll give a Dobby “fun fact,” a coloring sheet, and/or an abundance of Dobby pictures. Thank you for sending some love to my special pup.
